We’re once again delighted to be in Mauritius this week to deliver training on Understanding and Building Resilience against Disinformation in a Democratic Society, led by European External Action Service East Stratcom taskforce expert Siim Kumpas.
The event was opened by Hon Deepak Balgobin Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation. In his opening remarks, he commented that
“Information manipulation has the potential to polarise public opinion and reduce trust in democratic processes”.
Also in attendance was H.E Mr Vincent Degert, Ambassador of the EU 🇪🇺 to the Republic of Mauritius and to the Republic of Seychelles.
He remarked; “Owing to the rapid spread of information manipulation on a worldwide scale, it is now more important than ever to build resilience against disinformation.” And underlined: “Preventing the spread of toxic information is not about attacking freedom of speech. On the contrary, it is about protecting it.”
