Dr. Enrico Calandro delivers keynote speech at Sri Lankan National Cybersecurity Conference

As we draw to towards the final months of the Cyber4Dev project, we were pleased and proud to have been invited to participate in the 15th Sri Lankan National Cybersecurity Conference in Colombo, which took place earlier this week.

Sri Lanka has been one of the most engaged countries that we have worked with since the inception of the project in 2018 and we have observed over this time the continuing strides which it has made to further enhance it’s cyber resilience capabilities.

The National Cybersecurity Conference has become a key date in the diary of cyber professionals across Sri Lanka and our Project leader Dr. Enrico Calandro was honoured to have been asked to deliver the keynote speech on the subject of the Global Cyber Threat Landscape for CNII: Undersea Data Cable Security.

Undersea infrastructure security has a huge role to play in the global digital economy and society. These cables are responsible for transporting up to 99% of all transoceanic digital communication. However, they are often overlooked in discussions on critical infrastructure protection, including cybersecurity and maritime security. The security of undersea cables is especially important for Sri Lanka as the country acts as a connecting point between different regions.

In his presentation, Dr. Calandro focused on the different threats that exist at various levels of the cable infrastructure network. Highlighting vectors of attack, he then provided recommendations to improve the resilience of undersea cable infrastructure, sparking discussion and thought around ways that these may be implemented and any challenges that may lie ahead.

Thank you so much to our colleagues at Sri Lanka CERT for the invitation and congratulations on the delivery of a successful event.
