Revisiting Costa Rica and CSIRT Essentials

/

Recently our Lead Cyber expert Martin Indrek Miller and RIA expert Tomu Tammer visited Costa Rica to deliver training to local professionals on the subject of CSIRT Essentials.

In the words of Martin

Last year, Costa Rica faced a grave challenge that tested its resilience. In April 2022, the nation fell victim to one of the largest ransomware attacks in history, leaving its cybersecurity defences shaken. On May 8th, 2022, Costa Rica declared a state of national emergency, recognising cyber-attacks as acts of terrorism. The impact was substantial, with approximately 30 state institutions falling prey to malware, resulting in stolen sensitive data and months of disruption to essential government services.

During our stay, we delivered a comprehensive multi-day training course focused on CSIRT Essentials. We explored crucial aspects such as organizational structure, human resources, tools, and operational processes, enabling the CSIRT-CR team to enhance their proficiency in handling cyber threats. Additionally, we had the opportunity to share invaluable insights and best practices from the Estonian National CERT (CERT-EE), enriching their knowledge base.

By equipping them 🇨🇷 with essential skills and empowering their expertise, we are building a stronger defense against future attacks. Together, we forge a global network of collaboration, ensuring a safer digital landscape for all.

Thank you to colleagues in Costa Rica for your hospitality and your commitment to continuing to build your cyber resilience.
